         I Devil Electric vengono da Melbourne, Australia e suonano (loro dicono un rock and roll) una sorta di Heavy Rock sabbathiano. 

         La prima song del debutto omonimo deve molto ai Black Sabbath, ma non costituisce un problema, né per loro, né per chi ascolta. 

         Pierina O'Brien [Pierina !!??] (vocals), Christos Athanasias (guitar), Tom Hulse (bass), Mark Van De Beek (drums) navigano tra un qualcosa di sentito - ovviamente - ma anche qualcosa di personale.

         Il suono della chitarra è molto simile al fuzz di un tempo, voglio dire, il disco non è esasperato nei suoni e quindi si capisce un po' più della media (ormai) cosa facciano i musicanti...

         'Thrilling Vintage-Doom meets Modern-Rock' dicono giustamente quelli di Rolling Stone, qualcuno parla di Stoner Rock (Stoner Rock !??! Haha! Ci risiamo...). Certo...se non fossero esistiti Black Sabbath...

         Un disco piacevole, non un capolavoro, che potete tranquillamente acquistare senza aspettarvi chissà cosa.

Disco buono, l'acquisto dipende dal gusto.

I romani Doomriser, Nicola [aka Cynar] (vocals), Drugo (guitar), Valerio (guitar), Andrea Caminiti [aka BJ] (bass), Pinna (drums), Alessio Sanniti (guitar) incidono per la Bloodrock records di Genova (distribuita dalla Black Widow Records) e suonano Doom. Introduzione speech a la Banco del Mutuo Soccorso e si parte con riff lenti e possenti dove la voce tradisce immediatamente i limiti del tutto, anche dell'inglese...Quando dici doom pensi subito ai Black Sabbath ma non sempre sarebbe corretto perché non sono stati gli unici a sfruttare seconde minori e quinte bemolle, ma il mood è questo. Così corrono i primi 8 minuti dell'opening track. Atmosfere scure anche in phoenix che appare, però, più interessante della precedente, nonostante la voce. Suono identico a se stesso per 6 minuti e trenta, poi un piccolo cambio alterna incerti soli di chitarra e un interessante intervento di organo. Ancora una variazione verso i 9 minuti ma la sostanza non cambia, i Black sabbath dietro l'angolo, ma abbiamo sentito 4.576 gruppi suonare più o meno così. Solita intro preparativa per la successiva Re-Connect, il cantante non perde occasione di cantare alla sua maniera, il riff insiste senza lasciare traccia. La portata non cambia nei due pezzi rimanenti, stacco il cd. Suono vecchio, mood, vecchio, giri vecchi, nulla di personale. It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll...

The Romans Doomriser, Nicholas [aka Cynar] (vocals), Drug (guitar), Valerio (guitar), Andrea Caminiti [aka BJ] (bass), Pinna (drums), Alexis Samnites (guitar) signed in for the records label of Genoa Bloodrock (distributed by Black Widow Records) and playing Doom. A speech introduction a la Banco del Mutuo Soccorso and slow riffs and powerful with the voice which immediately betrays the limits of everything, even of the English ... When you say you think immediately to Black Sabbath doom, but not always is that correct because they not have been the only ones to use the second minor and the flat fifth, but this is the mood. So run the first 8 minutes of the opening track. Dark atmospheres in Phoenix that appears, however, more interesting than the previous track, despite the vocals. It sounds identical to itself for 6 minutes and thirty, then a small change alternates uncertain guitar solos and an interesting organ. Even a change to the 9 minutes but it does not change the feel, the Black Sabbath around the corner, but we've heard 4,576 groups play more or less like this. Usual intro setting for the next Re-Connect, the singer did not miss a chance to sing in his own way, insists the riff without leaving a trace. The scope does not change in the two remaining pieces, turn off the cd-player. Old sound, old mood, old riffs, nothing's personal. It's a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll ...

Già che mi trovo, scarico il lossless degli Ice Dragon pubblicato al solstizio d'estate 2011... Doom sabbathiano senza compromessi, riff granitici, solita qualità di produzione ed approssimazione tecnica. Il cantante sembra ancora di più Ozzy, ascoltate Mistress Death e ditemi se sono rincoglionito io o che...Come per il precedente, i pezzi non sono male, ma, ad un orecchio abituato ad ascoltare musica, dopo 3 minuti ogni pezzo, identico a se stesso, comincia a divenire stantio. Me ne dispiaccio perché la fantasia e la personalità non manca. Segue 'Light Years' usuale ballata acustica degli ice Dragon, bella, registrata con un feel veramente retrò cui succede 'Dusk', che ricorda proprio alcuni passaggi Black Sabbath acustici e con un riverbero da tape echo. Chiaro che se amate le vecchie sonorità '70 (che a me piacciono) non potete non tendere l'orecchio agli Ice Dragon, ma se avete passato per le vostre orecchie migliaia di dischi - probabilmente - coglierete il carattere derivativo della band. Bello il giro di 'Interspecies Communication' (devo dire che il cantante, pur producendosi in stonature varie, riesce a migliorare la propria prestazione rispetto al lavoro precedente). Per ora, il pezzo che mi è piaciuto di più, grazie anche alla chitarra acustica del finale che - giustamente - rompe la monotonia dei riff lunghi e drammatici. Immaginate una sorta di Black Sabbath con tempi dilatati, da doom moderno. In definitiva, l'album è migliore del precedente, più vario e meglio cantato. Mi chiedo come mai oggi siano in giro moltissime band che non hanno un cazzo da dire ma che riescono a trovare una produzione decente e band tipo Ice Dragon, che qualcosa ce l'hanno sicuramente, devono uscire con registrazioni di così bassa qualità. Mah...

Yes I am, I download the lossless Ice Dragon album published at the summer solstice 2011... Sabbath Doom without compromises,  granite riffs, usual production quality and technique accuracy. The singer seems even more Ozzy, take a listen to 'Mistress Death' and tell me if I fucked up or ... As for the previous, the pieces aren't bad, but, to an ear accustomed to listening to music, each piece after 3 minutes, identical to itself, begins to become stale. I am sorry because the imagination and the personality is there. Follows 'Light Years' usual acoustic ballad from Ice Dragon, beautiful, very retro feel, then we have 'Dusk', reminiscent of Black Sabbath's acoustic sound with a tape reverb echo. Clear that if you love the old sounds '70 (which I like) you can not lend an ear to the Ice Dragon, but if you have your ears thousands of records - probably - will grasp the character derivative of the band. Nice riff for 'Interspecies Communication' (I must say that the singer, even though they produce in various dissonances, has improved its performance compared to previous work). The piece that I liked most, so far, thanks also to the final acoustic guitar - quite rightly - breaks the monotony of the long and dramatic riffs. Imagine a sort of Black Sabbath with dilated time from modern doom. Ultimately, the album is better than the previous, more varied and better sung. I wonder now why are so many bands around that do not have a f*** to say, but they can find a decent production and bands like Ice Dragon, that have for sure something to say have come out with records of such low quality. Mah ...

Gli Ice Dragon vengono da Boston ed esordiscono col presente album che, apparentemente, non è stato prodotto da alcuna etichetta, stranamente. Album, quindi, completamente fruibile da bandcamp. Territori Doom-Psichedelici-Electric Wizardiani. Bello il riff del primo pezzo 'Squares Inside Squares', la voce ricorda Ozzy da vicino,  riff monolitico con chitarre granitiche. Cominciamo bene. Il secondo pezzo, 'Spellpouch' apre con chitarre acustiche contrappuntate in stile quasi medievale-sabbathiano, interrotte da momenti quasi-sludge e condite da una voce che canta veramente male. L'impressione è che i ragazzi, pur promettenti, necessitino di una produzione migliore, anche gli strumenti non sono distinguibili e - troppo spesso - il tutto sembra registrato 'da lontano'. Altro pezzo dall'incipit folk è il successivo 'Meddoe' ed il feel è identico. Black Widow e Black Sabbath incombono...Black insomma...lol! 'Hexagon Riders' segue da presso e mena forte. Il pezzo è coinvolgente, bisogna riconoscerlo, forse alla lunga, un po' troppo monocorde. 'The Watcher' non si discosta dal brano precedente, se non per le chitarre scordate. (Leggi: non perfettamente accordate) ma il buon riff c'è sempre. L'unico difetto,  registrazione a parte, è che, la canzone, dopo 3 minuti è finita, mentre gli Ice Dragon continuano ad insistere sugli stessi accordi in stile doom prolungato. E la cosa non giova a loro favore. Anche nel pezzo successivo, la voce, che è veramente monotonale, canta per cazzi propri...'Winged Prophet' che segue è un altro pezzo acustico, ben scritto, ma troppo identico a se stesso. Bneché il cantante facci sempre il verso a se stesso, l'utlltimo pezzo, 'Aquageddon' chiude l'album in maniera epica con 11 minuti di pregi e difetti visti sin qui. Insomma, le idee non mancano, con una produzione decente e un paio di strigliate al cantante migliorerebbero di molto. 

P.S. è uscito un secondo lavoro del 2011 intitolato The Sorrowful Sun. 

Lo ascolteremo.

The Ice Dragon are from Boston and with this debut album that, apparently, was not produced by any label, oddly enough. Album, and then, completely accessible from bandcamp. Electric Psychedelic Wizardy-Doom territories. Nice riff the first song 'Inside Squares Squares', where Ozzy's voice recalls a close, guitar riffs, monolithic granite. We start well. The second piece, 'Spellpouch' opens with acoustic guitars counterpointed, almost a Sabbath medieval-style, interrupted by moments of almost-sludge and dressed with a voice that sings really bad. The impression is that the boys, while promising, need a better production, even the instruments are not distinguishable and - too often - it all seems recorded 'from afar'. Another piece is the next with a folk  starting, 'Meddoe' and  the feel is identical. Black Widow and Black Sabbath...Black... well ... lol!  'Hexagon Riders' follows with strong leads. The song is exciting, admittedly, but perhaps in the long run, a little 'too  monotonous. 'The Watcher' is not so different from the previous song, but for the guitars that are out of tune,  but there is always a good riffing. The only drawback, aside from logging, is that the song is over after 3 minutes, while the Ice Dragon continue to insist on the same doom extended style chords. And what's not  good for them. Even in the next piece, the voice, which is really monotone, sing for his own businness ...  'Prophet Winged' here is another acoustic track, well written, but too self-identical. Although the singer  always face towards himself, the last piece, 'Aquageddon' closes the album in a 11-minute epic manner with its strengths and weaknesses seen so far. In short, many ideas out there, with a production and a decent pair of grooming the singer would improve greatly.
