I Sigiriya sarebbero gli Acrimony sotto mentite spoglie! (manca solo il chitarrista Lee Davies). I figli degli  Acrimony, che furono autori di due buoni album (l'ultimo del 1997 intitolato Tumuli Shroomaroom), tornano a  calcare il parquet degli studi di registrazione dopo la dismissione della band nel 2001. Nonostante gli  inevitabili accostamenti al gruppo precedente, i Sigiriya non reggono il confronto col passato, anche in  considerazione del fatto che sono passati dieci anni; le cose evolvono, normalmente. I britannici di nuova  costituzione, invece, rimangono ancorati ad un vecchio suono e a superate forme canzoni. Due ritornelli poi il  solo di chitarra. Chiamatelo metal, chiamatelo stoner, chiamtelo come preferite, ma i riff non cambiano ed il  sound neppure. Leggermente più apprezzabile appare la terza traccia 'Robot Funeral' e così - a tratti - la  seguente 'The Mountain Goat'. 'Whiskey Song' ci regala qualche spunto apprezzabile col suo riff granitico e la conclusiva 'Deathtrip To Eryri', con i suoi toni vagamente psichedelici, rappresenta sicuramente il pezzo più  riuscito. Un disco pieno di ovvietà che non serve a coloro che hanno ascoltato per anni cose come queste.

Sigiriya would be the Acrimony in disguise! (only missing the guitarist Lee Davies). Children of Acrimony, who were authors of two good albums (the last in 1997 titled Grave Shroomaroom), returning to walk the floors of the recording studios after the disposal of the band in 2001. Despite the inevitable comparisons to the previous group, Sigiriya not bear comparison with the past, even considering the fact that ten years have passed, normally, things are moving. The UK's new constitution, however, remain anchored to an old outdated forms and sounds. Two choruses and the guitar solo. Call it metal, call it stoner, call it as you like, but the riffs and the sound does not change either. Slightly more noticeable is the third track 'Robot Funeral', and so - at times - the following 'The Mountain Goat'. 'Whiskey Song' gives us some appreciable ideas with his rock riffing and the closing 'To Deathtrip Eryri', with its vaguely psychedelic tones, is definitely the best. A disc full of platitudes that does not help those who have been hearing things like this for years.

I GG sono di Genova ed anche l'etichetta che li produce. Fa piacere che, ad oggi, ci siano diverse band in Italia capaci di tirare fuori un disco così. Anni addietro era impensabile, e per una questione di professionalità di addetti ai lavori e per una questione legata ad ambienti culturali. Solo che, adesso, fare un disco del genere significa sguazzare nell'ovvio, nel commerciale oserei. Otto pezzi che non dicono nulla rispetto a quanto detto sin'ora da centinaia di band. Vuoi Stoner (ma manco tanto), vuoi heavy metal, ma siamo alle solite cose. Si sa anche che in Italia, è sufficiente che qualcuno colga al volo un trend per farlo assurgere ad eroe nazionale. I Primus, per contro, se fossero nati a Genova, non se li sarebbe filati nessuno. Per fortuna loro, erano americani. Potremmo citare chissà quanti gruppi nascosti tra le note dei Gandhi's Gunn ma sarebbe inutile. Heavy rock trito e ritrito dall'inizio alla fine. Un disco per neofiti.

The GG are from Genova and also the label that produces them. It is nice that, so far, there are several bands in Italy capable of produce a platter like that. Years ago it was unthinkable, as a matter of professionalism and as a question of cultural environments. Only, now, making a record like that means wallowing in the obvious, I would dare to say commercial. Eight pieces that say nothing compared to what was said by hundreds of bands so far. You'd say Stoner (more or less), you'd say heavy metal, but we have the usual things. We also know that in Italy, it is enough caughting a trend on the fly to make someone a national hero. Primus, on the other hand, if they were born in Genoa, they didn't have any follower. Fortunately for them, they were americans. We could mention a bunch of bands behind the notes of Gandhi's Gunn but it would be useless. Corny heavy rock from start to finish. A work for beginners.
