I fratelli del vento vengono dalla lontana Svezia e condividono il chitarrista Nicklas Barker con i più conosciuti Anekdoten, di chiara matrice prog. Completano la line-up Mathias Danielsson (guitar), Ronny Eriksson (bass) e Tomas Eriksson (drums). Giustamente inseriti in un contesto space/prog i quattro scandinavi propongono sei pezzi rilassati e rilassanti. Fire ! Fire !! è un pezzo sempre in sospeso, sembra che risolva da un momento all'altro ma per 13 minuti tutto ciò non avviene. La tensione è sempre dietro l'angolo. Pagan Moonbeam è una 'breve' escursione acustica e vagamente orientale. Nessuno dei due brani ci regala qualche novità di rilievo. L'album è ben suonato. Tracce di Amon Duul possono essere scorte here and there...The Mediator Between Head and Hands Must Be the Heart ricalca esattamente il mood immodificato che caratterizza il sound del presente platter. Le stesse atmosfere iper rilassate le ritroviamo nella seguente Torbjörn Abelli. Leggermente più movimentata è invece Under Crimson Skies nella quale tornano echi di Amon Duul. Col passare dei minuti la song riprende le atmosfere narcotiche dei precedenti passaggi, né si differenzia dall'intenzione già vista. Idem per la finale I Wash My Soul in the Stream of Infinity. In definitiva, un disco monocorde, che non lascia spazio ad interpretazioni di sorta. Forse un po' troppo per le nostre orecchie.

The brothers of the wind come from Sweden and share the guitarist Nicklas Barker with the most popular Anekdoten, a known progressive band. Completing the line-up Mathias Danielsson (guitar), Ronny Eriksson (bass) and Tomas Eriksson (drums). Rightly placed in a space / prog, the four Scandinavian propose six relaxed and relaxing pieces. Fire! Fire! is an outstanding piece always seeming to solve any minute for 13 minutes, but it does not happen. The tension is always around the corner. Pagan Moonbeam is a 'short' acoustic tour and vaguely Eastern. Neither of the two songs gives us some important innovations. The album is well played. Traces of Amon Duul can be glimpsed here and there... The Mediator Between Head and Heart Hands Must Be The exact reflection of the unchanged mood characterizing the sound of this platter. The same hyper relaxed atmospheres can be found in the following  Torbjörn Abelli. However it is slightly more eventful Under Crimson Skies in which echoes of Amon Duul are back. With every passing minute song takes up the atmospheres of the previous narcotic steps, and doesn't differ from the intention already seen. Same for the final I Wash My Soul In The Stream of Infinity. In conclusion, a lackluster record, which leaves no room for interpretation whatsoever. Maybe a little 'too much' for our ears.

I Dewolff sono tre giovanissimi ragazzi olandesi che rispondono ai nomi di Pablo van de Poel (guitar, lead vocals), Luka van de Poel (drums, vocals) e Robin Piso (Hammond, vocals, theremin). Autori nel 2008 di un ep omonimo, nel 2009 del full-lenght Strange Fruits and Undiscovered Plants, non devono passare inosservati. Benché in età impubere (o quasi), i tre in questione sembrano nati sessanta anni fa. Calati totalmente nelle atmosfere psychoprog degli anni 60 ci propongono un lavoro di 11 tracce ben fatto e dal sapore retrò. Già dall'ascolto del primo brano, rispetto al predecessore del 2009, si nota una presenza cospicua di tastiere a scapito delle chitarre ed il risultato è un disco più 'progressivo' (il virgolettato vuole intenderlo come concetto ampio: non è prog sinfonico, insomma...). Tuttavia, non dobbiamo fare l'errore di credere che i Dewolff siano un clone di qualcosa che è stato visto e rivisto migliaia di volte. Il sound retrò fornisce il destro per una composizione personale intarsiata nei suoni del progressive degli anni 60/70. Atmosfere dolci e quasi-complesse ci avvolgono come in un film d'essai. Il terzo brano ci regala riverberi di tastiere dei King Crimson. Apre il quarto pezzo e comincio a chiedermi se i pezzi continueranno a mutare sensazione e ad essere sempre validi come questi appena ascoltati. La cosa mi preoccuperebbe. Sono molto preoccupato, il quinto pezzo spiega alla gente come si scrive un pezzo efficace facendolo sembrare semplice. Love in C Minor, ascoltatela e fatemi sapere. Ecco i King Crimson in Higher Than the Sun ! Ed ancora i Cream, gli Allman Brothers ecc. Insomma, il disco è solo apparentemente derivativo. Anche se a tratti, e soprattutto nella seconda parte, il disco perde qualcosina in intensità - paradossalmente proprio nei pezzi più rock - le composizioni qui presenti sono degne di estrema attenzione. Una sorta di rivisitazione personale del '68... 

Dewolff are three Dutch young boys: Pablo van de Poel (guitar, lead vocals), Luka van de Poel (drums, vocals) and Robin Piso (Hammond, vocals, theremin). Authors of a self-titled EP in 2008, in 2009 the full-length 'Strange Fruits and Undiscovered Plants' should not to go unnoticed. Although they didn't reach the age of puberty (or almost), the three in question seem born sixty years ago. Totally fell in the psychoprog atmospheres of the 60ies present to us a well done job and 11 tracks really retrò. Already hearing the first track, compared to its predecessor of 2009, there is a conspicuous presence of keyboards at the expense of guitars and the result is an more 'progressive' album (the quotation marks want to hear it as a broad concept: it is not symphonic prog...). However, we must not make the mistake of believing that Dewolff be a clone of something that has been seen and re-seen thousands of times. The retro sound gives the chance of a personal composition inlaid in the sounds of progressive from the 60/70 years. Sweet atmospheres and Complex and almost-complex enveloping us like a d'essai movie. The third track gives us reverbs of keyboards of King Crimson. Fourth piece is on the go and I start to wonder if the pieces will continue to change feeling and be still valid as the latest heard. I'd be worried by that. I am very worried...the fifth piece explains to people how to write a successful song making it look easy. Love in C Minor, listen and let me know. Here King Crimson in Higher Than the Sun! Then the Cream, the Allman Brothers, etc.. In short, the disc is apparently derivative. Although at times, especially in the second part, the disc loses a little bit in intensity - paradoxically more in rock songs - the compositions here are worthy of close attention. A sort of personal reassessment of '68 ...

I sardi Black Capricorn altri non sono se non Fabrizio Monni aka Kjxu (chitarra e voce) già con i Black Hole of Hulejra, Virginia (bass) e Rachela (drums). L'ambientazione della band non tarda a farsi chiara già dalle primissime battute, ove non fosse sufficiente la cover. Doom. Le song sono guidate dal fuzz di Kjxu e supportate dalla base ritmica interamente femminile. Sin dai primi ascolti balza all'orecchio la evidente approssimazione con la quale, soprattutto basso e batteria, fanno il proprio lavoro. Benché le soluzioni melodiche ed architettoniche delle song non siano certo il massimo del nuovo, mantengono, nonostante tutto, un loro perché. Riff semplici di chitarra, abbastanza efficaci, compitino della base ritmica e...vai col tango...Ascoltiamo 'Il Tamburo del Demonio' che è dotata di un bel groove (anche Perpetual Eclipse non era male) e passiamo a '10,000 Tons of Lava' che risulta uno dei brani più riusciti. Stessa sensazione per le altre canzoni. Anche se non c'è nulla di nuovo nelle soluzioni adottate dai Black Capricorn il risultato rimane piacevole. Ci si augura, però, che alla prossima release si tenga nel dovuto conto il fatto di evitare accuratamente di suonare e di far suonare il disco come se ci si trovasse in sala prove.

The Sardinians Black Capricorn are Fabrizio Monni aka Kjxu (guitar and vocals) already with the Black Hole of Hulejra, Virginia (bass) and Rachel (drums). The setting of the band is quick to make clear right from the very beginning, when the cover is not sufficient. Doom. The songs are driven by the Kjxu's fuzz and supported  by the rhythmic section entirely female. From the first listening comes to my ear the approximation with which, especially bass and drums, did their work. Although architectural and melodic solutions of the songs are certainly not the best of the new, maintain, despite everything, a their meaning. Simple guitar riff, quite effective, just an homework the rhythmic base and...let's go. 'The Devil's Drum' which has a nice groove (Perpetual Eclipse also was not bad) and we go to '10, 000 Tons of Lava 'which is one of the most successful songs. Same feeling for the other songs. Although there is nothing new in the solutions adopted by the Black Capricorn the result is pleasing. It is hoped, however, that the next release will take due account of the fact that carefully avoid to play the disc as if they were in the rehearsal room.

Non è mica semplice recensire un disco dei Morkobot. Si fa presto a dire sono belli, sono brutti ecc. Ma iniziamo dall'incomincio...I Morkobot sono Lin, Lan e Len. (Italiani, non Cinesi) e presentano il loro quarto lavoro per la piemontese Supernatural Cat di Malleus (il noto grafico). Laciate stare ogni immaginazione di musica semplicemente descrivibile con accostamenti ad altre band, qui sarebbe veramente difficile. La musica è strumentale, lo stile è nervoso (si parla infatti di noise rock). Le distorsioni che illuminano i riff ripetitivi e dal sapore ultra moderno sono fredde, i suoni spostati sul registro medio acuto ed i ritmi serrati e schizofrenici. D'altronde, suonando con due bassi ed una batteria, non si poteva pretendere di creare qualcosa di molto sentito e ri-sentito. Insomma, è come se gli strumenti si dimenassero attorno ad un tempo, sottolineato dalla batteria, con le particolarità timbriche appena accennate. Certo, non possiamo pretendere di ascoltare il groove del rock più classico. Immaginate una sorta di Primus che suona in maniera ancora più autoreferente, un tuffo nevrotico e sincopato, un discorso robotico, super meccanizzato, futurista. Avete presente l'onomatopeicità del Futurismo...Sdeng ! Zang ! ecc...ecco, ci siamo. Accenni vagamente psychedelici di derivazione tecnologica. Chiudete gli occhi ed immaginate di trovari in una iper metropoli tra duecento anni. Ascoltate il suono della città e vedrete passeggiare il Morbo...

It's not easy to review a disk from Morkobot. It's easy to say they are beautiful, they are so ugly. But let's start from the beginning... The Morkobot are Lin, Lan and Len. (Italian, not Chinese) and they publish their fourth work for Supernatural Cat label, that is Malleus (the well-known graph). Just leave the imagination of music simply described with comparison to other bands, it would be very difficult. The music is instrumental, the style is nervous (noise rock). The distortions that illuminate the repetitive riffs and ultra modern taste are cold, moved to the middle and acute register, sounds and rhythms of tight schizophrenia. On the other hand, playing with two basses and drums, could not be expected to create something very sensitive and re-heard. In short, it is as if all the instruments wiggle around a click time, pointed out the battery, with the special timbre just mentioned. Of course, we can not expect to hear classic rock groove. Imagine a sort of Primus which sounds even more self-referential, neurotic and a dip syncopated, robotic speech, super-mechanized, futuristic. You know ... the onomatopeic Sdeng ! Zang! of Futurism?! So...here we go. Hints vaguely psychedelic, technology-based. Close your eyes and imagine that you are in the middle of a hyper city after two hundred years. Listen to the sound of the city and you'll walk around the Morbo (that is Disease)...

Non ho ben capito se questo cd sia stato pubblicato da una qualche etichetta o se possa essere liberamente scaricato senza ulteriori specifiche. Ad ogni modo, noto subito la bella voce della cantante Julia "Joul" Überbacher. I Sahara Surfers sono di Innsbruck e annoverano tra le proprie fila Andreas "Andi" Knapp (guitar), Hans-Peter "Aitsch-Pi" Ganner (bass) e Michael "Steini" Steingress (drums). La musica che sorregge voce di Julia spazia tra un hard rock convenzionale con accordature vagamente stoner (ma ce ne corre) e accenni psychedelici, ma non è nulla di eccezionale.  Il tutto è costruito su un concetto musicale iper riprodotto del quale abbiamo le gonadi stracolme. Non capisco perché ci si debba sforzare di collocare gruppi come questi in ambienti stoner. Boh...Per fortuna il disco è suonato abbastanza bene, senza gli orrori che - troppo spesso - caratterizzano le release di un certo tipo di musica underground, eccezioni a parte. Un disco non male, ma colmo di scontatezze, che nulla a che vedere con lo stoner. Solo Hard Rock. Stop.

I'm not sure if this CD has been published by some label or can be freely downloaded without further specifications. However, I quickly appreciate the beautiful voice of the singer Julia "Joule" Überbacher. The Sahara Surfers are from Innsbruck and include among their ranks Andreas "Andi" Knapp (guitar), Hans-Peter "Pi-Aitsch" Ganner (bass) and Michael "Stein" Steingress (drums). The music that supports Julia's voice ranges from a conventional hard rock with a vaguely stoner tunings (to be kind...) and psychedelic hints, but it is nothing exceptional. Everything is built on a musical concept hyper known that overfilled our gonads. I do not understand why we should strive to place such bands in areas like stoner. Dunno ... Fortunately, the disc is played quite well, without the horrors - too often - characterize the release of a certain kind of underground music, apart from few exceptions. A disc is not bad, but full of obviousness, which has nothing to do with the stoner. Only Hard Rock. Stop.
