Sungrazer - Mirador (2011)

Sungrazer - Mirador (Elektrohasch EH 150 2011)

The Sungrazer: Rutger Smeets (guitar, vocals), Sander Haagmans (bass, vocals), Hans Mulders (drums) are 3 Dutch freak as one of the most interesting bands around at the moment. They had already impressed with their first self-titled 2010 and is now repeated with the excellent Mirador. They move into soft-stoner mixed with psychedelia territories and have the advantage of a good playing, but above all, to be recognizable and a personal style. The introductory 'Wild Goose' and subsequent 'Octo' encompass the full potential of the band where stoner hints (never dull) fuse with improvisational psychedelic ramblings, albeit derivative, leave their mark and give the whole an homogeneous and constant idea. Nice the introductory riff of 'Sea' a la Earth and its development, which hovers between stoner and that, with different sounds, remember something of our own Void Generator. Certainly one of the highlights of the platter. Same trend for 'Goldstrike'. The following 'Behind', which lasts almost 14 minutes, must necessarily be regarded as the suite of the work where they having room the imaginable piano and forte we've found so far. Same goes for 'Mirador' and '34 Final & More '. Bravi Sungrazer to which, for intellectual honesty, the only criticism to be moved is have produced a disc which rests unceasingly on songs with - more or less - the same speed and the same feel. In the long run wears down a little.
