Bro Fidelity Records (BroFi005) (vinyl only!)
Take two aussie guys of Melbourne and add Gary Arce of Yawning Man and you'll have the Hotel Wrecking City Traders & Gary Arce with a release that should not go unnoticed. From an architectural point of view one of the most interesting records of recent years. Imagine a path that brings together post-rock and psychedelia a la Motorpsycho, the most visionary and improvisational, and you only have one piece of the whole. You must add to the premise the weaver of horizontal melodies aka Toby (the other guitarist) and the drumming of Ben that rarely follows the beat but never describes anything for granted. Despite the presence of Gray at the guitars (the couple of the guitars is their strenght) there is no trace of stoner rock, contrary to what some reviewers wrote on the web. Or you play a super powerful blues with the bridge pickup or is not stoner. Spread the news, you never know might be useful to someone ... The structure of the pieces (only two) consists essentially of a continuous and mutual run of the guitars whose variable mood is underlined by an emphatic drumming. Here's how a disc should be in its structure. Personal by all the components and for the whole duration of the release. In essence, one guitar describes something beginning with a rhythmic and melodic playing - then - with the intervention of the other guitar and of the drums the songs get drama and relax as the mood of the musicians. All this, I think it's obvious, is a complete super-psychedelic mood. Buy it...cazzo!
