Gli italiani Insider meritano un posto d'onore tra le formazioni del bel paese, soprattutto in funzione del presente 'Simple Water Drops' del 2005. Sinceramente, dopo aver ascoltato i precedenti lavori, non li ritenevo capaci di tanto. Innanzi tutto - occorre ripetere - questo disco NON ha nulla a che vedere con lo stoner, piaccia o no, questo cd (molto bello) non è stoner…Otto brani che nuotano in un mare sempre vintage. Non v’è particolare perizia tecnica, ma i ragazzi in questione sanno scrivere canzoni. Pertanto, vanno dritti al top. Il brano d’apertura, a mio avviso, è il più coinvolgente, e se tutti gli altri fossero stati allo stesso livello sto disco avrebbe fatto piangere parecchia gente…Chitarre con fuzz non esasperato descrivono i magici riff di Simple Water Drops, metal, Sabbath style. Ma il segreto risiede nella batteria e nella voce. La prima NON suona MAI in maniera ovvia, questo conferisce a tutti i pezzi qualcosa di originale. La voce gutturale e quasi monocorde diviene irrimediabilmente riconoscibile, per questo più che apprezzabile. Il lavoro delle tastiere contribuisce non poco ad una atmosfera doom dal vago sapore garage (!) I trilli della chitarra ed il suono nasale (un wha ed un fuzz d’epoca, presumo) completano l’opera, veramente rimarchevole. Io ancora devo stancarmi di ascoltare questo pezzo…Quando ascolterete ‘Hollow’ non preoccupatevi, non sono i Black Sabbath, sono gli Insider nella loro versione più doom. L’intermezzo di tastiera mi rimanda maledettamente a qualcosa che non riesco a ricordare…aiutatemi ! ‘The Silver Book’ continua ed espande il discorso iniziato con ‘Hollow’ aggiungendovi un tocco space ed un sapore orientaleggiante. ‘I Remember’: apertura doom e basso con echo e wha, chitarra con phaser, accordi lunghi, voce tremula, accenti catastroficamente evidenziati dal batterista. Lunghi temi di chitarra mediosa e nasale corrono tra un accordo e l’altro. Poco dopo la metà del pezzo la velocità raddoppia e la chitarra lavora sul nuovo groove parafrasando tutti i pezzi ascoltati sin’ora con l’ausilio di una voce filtrata mai banale…ancora temi orientali, chitarra con wha, suoni space. Il pezzo chiude rilassandosi…aahh…Neanche il tempo di tirare il fiato ed un riff di chitarra (I Belong to the Morning Light) ricomincia a picchiare. Altri non è se non un blues mascherato dal feel doom. Evidente il I-IV-V (mi si passi la digressione tecnica…). Dopo quattro minuti la tensione scende e la chitarra si produce in una serie di soli/temi che, pur se non perfetti tecnicamente, rendono bene il senso. (Ri)Ascoltate ‘When the Leeve Breaks’ e ci capiremo sicuramente. Terza maggiore per la chitarra in chiusura (blues docet). Forse l’ultima parte del cd, ‘Remorseful Time’ ,diviene un pochino più ovvia, ma mai brutta, una vaga, dico VAGA sembianza stoner con ’Latest News from the Satellite’ non è al livello dei precedenti pezzi…ma Page è sempre dietro l’angolo…’The Equilibrist’ chiude il platter sempre sulla falsariga di qualità dell’ultimo pezzo. In definitiva, un ottimo cd, molta personalità nell’80% dei pezzi. Finalmente un disco di un gruppo italiano fatto come C. comanda. Certamente migliorabile da un punto di vista strettamente tecnico, ma provate voi a fare un disco con queste canzoni…
The Italians Insider deserve a place of honor among the formations of the 'bel paese', particularly in the light of this 'Simple Water Drops' of 2005. Sincerely, after listening to the earlier work, I didn't believe them capable of so much. First and foremost - must be repeated - this disc has nothing to do with the stoner, like it or not, this CD (very good) is not stoner ... Eight songs that swim in a sea always vintage. There is no particular technical skill, but the guys can write songs. Therefore, go straight to the top. The opening song, in my opinion, is the most exciting, and if all the others were at the same level They would drive many people to tears. Non-Exasperated fuzz guitars describe the magical riffs of Simple Water Drops, metal, Sabbath style. But the secret lies in drums and vocals. The first NEVER EVER sounds obvious, and it gives all the pieces something original. The guttural voice almost monochord becomes irreparably recognizable for this more than appreciable. The keyboards work contributes greatly to an atmosphere of doom, vaguely garage (!) The trills of guitar and nasal twang (a wha and a fuzz vintage, I presume) complete the work, truly remarkable. I still have to get tired of listening to this ... When you hear 'Hollow' do not worry, they aren't the Black Sabbath, they are Insider in their more doom version. Get a feedback from the the interval of the keyboard that ...damn...I see something that I can't remember... help me! 'The Silver Book' continues and expands the discourse started with 'Hollow' adding a space touch and an oriental flavor. 'I Remember': doom overture and bass with echo and wah, phased guitar, long chords, quavering voice, accents catastrophically highlighted by the drummer. Long and nasal guitar themes run among the chords. Shortly after the middle of the song the speed is doubled and the guitar work on the new groove paraphrasing all the pieces heard up to helped by a voice filtered yet never boring... Oriental themes, with wah guitar, sound space. The song ends with a relaxing fade out... aahh ... No time to breathe a while and a guitar riff (I Belong to The Morning Light) begins to beat. Nothing more that a masked blues with a doom dress. Clear is the I-IV-V (if I may digress on a technical matter...). After four minutes the tension drops and the guitar plays several solos/riffs that, while not technically perfect, make a good sense. (Re) Listen to 'When the Levee Breaks' and we certainly understand. A major third of the guitar for closing the song (blues docet). Perhaps the last part of the cd 'Remorseful Time' becomes a little more obvious, but never ugly, a vague, say VAGUE stoner semblance with 'Latest News from the Satellite' is not at the level of previous pieces ... but Page is always around the corner ... 'The Equlibrist' closes the platter at the same quality level of the last piece. Ultimately, a great cd, so much personality at 80% of the songs. Finally a disc made by an Italian group as J.C. rules. Surely improvable under a strictly technical point of view, but...you try to make a record with these songs ...
