Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats - Blood Lust
Rise Above Records
Batteria scarna tipo sixties, voci spesso doppiate sempre sixties, ritmo beat.
I had heard for the first time at Chybucca site and I liked them a lot. Immediately it seemed impossible that a band like that was unsigned, indeed I recently learned that the Rise Above Records has published a limited edition vinyl, and they have done well ...
Imagine an atmosphere immersed in the mystery. You do not even know the names of the three directors of this seventies horror movie rescued from an old wine cellar of his uncle, Uncle Acid, indeed... Uncle Acid (vocals, guitar, organ), Kat (bass), Red (drums) (first names seem?) are obviously three super-crazy guys stucked in the underground Italian horror movies, just take a look at their clips on youtube. Definitely retro, even on the cover, are too easily dismissed as doom. A mix of psychedelia (the one from '60s, with garage approach), and something of Witch - folklore talking about - of an old band that I can not remember the name ... That's it...the americans Coven! Sixties thin drums type, often dubbed voices always sixties styled, beat rhythm. This is what is offering the amazing 'I'll Cut You Down', the opening track. Simple riff, played with a regular strumming and doom nuance (the typical guitar harmonies in thirds) for the next 'Death's Door'. Slightly faster and doom the following 'Over & Over Again', but slower and more doom lilting 'Curse In The Trees' where the guitar gets angry at othe end that we would not have thought possible, given the setting. With the passing of the songs we realize that the 'beat' - perhaps - remains too close to himself, but the quality of the songwriting is not ruled out ever. Thin voice, always a bit 'behind' and rhythm that invites you to a sweet headbanging. The riff of 'Ritual Knife' is immediately think of something by Black Sabbath (try to guess the song ...). Perhaps the simplicity of the songs, which is the strength of the album, is both its limit, which is manifested by a repetition that is felt even in pieces not too long. Beautiful is the acoustic track that closes the album ... even if you have to wait a while to manifest itself ... completely normal.
