Vista la sostanziale irreperibilità del vinile in oggetto registrato per celebrare i 40 anni di Effenaar, vado a recensire il presente disco - uscito solo in vinile - Strings of Stroop che contiene 5 brani registrati live in Olanda in diversi periodi. Edizione limitata a 500 unità, che ha raggiunto quotazioni di mercato fuori dal senso comune, presenta la seguente datazione di tracklist: Track A1: May 7, 1999, track A2: April 21, 2000, tracks B1 and B2: May 23, 2010. La tracciaB3 che non compare nella copertina, è del May 4, 2006 ed è una cover dei Queen (da News of the World del 1977).
Si parte con Psychonaut (da Trust Us del 1998) che ci regala le 'solite' divagazioni norvegesi con ampi spazi lasciati all'improvvisazione. Continuiamo con Go To California del 2000 (Phanerothyme del 2001) la versione smart-pop dei Motor. Bella la prova d'insieme e delle voci armonizzate con cura anche dal vivo.
Segue Whole Lotta Diana (da Child of the Future 2009) che - sembra - il brano meno riuscito del platter, forse anche perché appartiene ad uno degli album meno belli dei Motorpsycho ed anche perché la parte più interessante risiede nella improvvisazione centrale. Una versione live, sempre del 2010, dell'immensa Come On In campeggia stranamente in esibizioni contemporanee.Tratta dall'inarrivabile Demon Box (1993) non riesce a pareggiare l'incredibile pathos della scatola del demonio, ma mi regala dei ricordi che difficilmente - credo - possano ripetersi in un futuro musicale, sempre auspicabile. Si chiude con Sheer Heart Attack, scelta dal batterista, mai suonata prima, della quale non si ricordano le parole. I Queen vagamente punk...avreste mai creduto ad una cosa del genere !? Se siete dei fan dei Motorpsycho dovreste acquistare il disco, ma dovete anche essere piuttosto facoltosi dati che l'ultima asta su ebay s'è chiusa a 240 euro...il disco non è eccellente ma neanche da buttare. per chi conosce e segue i Motorpsycho da quasi venti anni la recensione, seppur scarna, era un must.

It starts with Psychonaut (from Trust Us, 1998) that gives us the 'usual' Norwegians ramblings left with plenty of room for improvisation. We continue with Go To California from 2000 (Phanerothyme 2001), the smart-pop version of the Motor. Beautiful proof of the ensemble with voices harmonized with care even during a live set.
It follows Whole Lotta Diana (from Child of the Future 2009) that - it seems - the less successful song of the platter, perhaps because it belongs to one of the less attractive album of the Motorpsycho and also because the most interesting part lies in the central improvisation. A live version, also from 2010, the immense Come On In weirdly stands in contemporary performances. taken from the unreachable Demon Box (1993) fails to match the incredible pathos of the devil's box, but it gives me memories of that hardly - I think - that can happen in a musical future, always desirable. It closes with Sheer Heart Attack, chosen by the drummer, never played before, which they can not remember the lyrics. A vaguely punk Queen ... would you never believe a thing!? If you're a fan of Motorpsycho you should buy the vinyl, but you must be pretty rich since the last auction on ebay hath been closed at 240 euros ... the record is not excellent but not to throw. For who has been knowing and following Motorpsycho for nearly twenty years, the review, though tiny, was a Must.
