Vibravoid - Gravity Zero (2012)

I tedeschi Vibravoid incidono ancora per la tedesca Sulatron e, dopo il live al festival di Burg Herzberg del 2011, presentano il loro nuovo lavoro Gravity Zero. Super psichedelico il primo pezzo 'Gravitation Zero' con campionamenti ripetuti che sfociano in un groove godibile vagamente retro tipico dei Vibravoid. Il groove e la base ritmica non mutano nella successiva 'No Silver Bird' che, invece, ci allieta con un tremolo esasperato sulle chitarre. L'oscillatore di un synth apre 'Photosynthesis in Darkness' ma il 'tiro' della song è sempre lo stesso, molto bello il ritornello, semplice ed efficace con batteria che sembra quasi elettronica. Dopo la divagazione kraut di 'Travelling Without Moving' abbiamo 'Eruptions of the Green Sun' che sembra un estratto del disco precedente, un classico della psichedelia dei '60. 'Shotgun Wedding' col suo  tremolo, l'arrangiamento simil sitar e le tastiere riecheggia ambientazioni dark con sfumature raga e riverberi anni '80. Insistente l'effetto tremolo che ritroviamo anche nella seguente 'Get Out of Here', solo che lo stesso mood comincia a ricorrere troppo spesso, e la batteria smaccatamente anni '80 non aiuta la fruibilità del pezzo. Oramai era chiaro, delay da effetto tremolo in apertura anche in 'The White Ship'...'Brainplane' invece si distanzia un poco dal mood precedente, una sorta di speech onirico...echo a nastro portato in overdrive e una congerie di suoni kraut style al centro del pezzo lasciano spazio a questa bella trasognata composizione. Se conoscete la Scuola di Düsseldorf  allora avrete immediatamente idea di cosa possa succedere in 'La vie en Düsseldorf'. Chiude 'Radiation Zero' (questi ultimi due brani come bonus tracks su cd). Ci vogliono 4 minuti e 30 secondi perché l'incipit kraut di 'Radiation Zero' lasci il campo ad una qualche nota vera e propria, ma non vi ingannate, siamo in un pienissimo krautrock old style. In definitiva, un buon disco, forse con qualche superflua ripetizione di groove troppo anni '80, e comunque troppo identici a se stessi nella prima parte del platter, ma sicuramente ci sono idee interessanti per gli amanti della psychedelia più oltranzista.

The german Vibravoid are back again with the german Sulatron and, after the live show at Burg Herzberg Festival 2011, will present their new work 'Zero Gravity'. First song is super psychedelic 'Gravitation Zero' with repeated sampling leading to a vaguely retro and enjoyable groove typical of Vibravoid. The groove and the rhythmical section do not change at the next 'No Silver Bird' which, however, we can enjoy it with an exaggerated guitar tremolo. A synth oscillator opens a 'Photosynthesis in Darkness' but the 'shot' of the song remains the same, very nice chorus, easily and effectively with drums that appears almost electronic. After the kraut digression of 'Travelling Without Moving' here you are 'Eruptions of the Green Sun' which sounds like an excerpt of the previous album, a classic of the '60s psychedelic. 'Shotgun Wedding' with its tremolo, the sitar like arrangement and the keyboards with dark raga shades environments do echoes of reverberations from the '80s. persistent is the tremolo effect also found in the following 'Get Out of Here', just the same mood begins to come too often, and drums blatantly '80s does not help the usability of the piece. By now it was clear, delay and opening tremolo even at the beginning of 'The White Ship' ... 'Brainplane' distances himself from somewhat the previous mood instead, a sort of dream ... speech echo tape brought into overdrive and a congeries of kraut style sounds in the middle of the piece give way to this beautiful dreamy composition. If you know the Düsseldorf School, then you immediately know what can happen in 'La Vie en Düsseldorf'. Closes 'Radiation Zero' (these last two songs as bonus tracks on CD). It takes 4 minutes and 30 seconds for the opening steps of kraut 'Radiation Zero' leave the field to a few notes true, but not be deceived, we are in a fully old style krautrock. In short, a good album, perhaps with some unnecessary repetition of the '80s groove too, and usually too self-identical in the first part of the platter, but surely there are interesting ideas for lovers of more extreme psychedelia.
