Stoned Jesus - Seven Thunders Roar (2012)

Non si possono recensire sempre gruppi che vengono dai soliti 5/6 paesi, Italia a parte. Gli Ucraini Stoned Jesus [Sid (bass), Vadim (drums), Igor "Prog-Jester" Sidorenko (guitar, vocals)] giungono al loro secondo lavoro intitolato Seven Thunders Roar che pubblicano grazie alla connazionale Moon. Il grosso degli addetti ai lavori li definisce stoner metal ('zzo sarà mai...). Personalmente ricordo il loro primo lavoro come non eccellente ma neanche da buttare. Il primo pezzo 'Bright Like the Morning' non mi convince molto: troppo infantile, suonato non bene e dove la sezione ritmica ha una grossa responsabilità in tema di groove. Il secondo pezzo 'Electric Mistress' ci conduce invece in territori doom dove troviamo delle analogia col pezzo appena terminato. L'idea melodica non è male, ma la realizzazione lascia a desiderare alquanto. La voce non convince, il mix neanche, ma è il playing in genere a non essere all'altezza. Dispiace perché la personalità affiora here and there...'Indian' sembra un pezzo prog...si, prog ! Lo so, è strano, ma è così. verso il minuto Indian vira verso ambienti più sixties. Qui l'idea c'è, non ci sono santi. 'I'm the Mountain' è un pezzo acustico (quindi dall'andamento dell'album a me sembrerebbe più un gruppo prog che non stoner metal...stoner metal...boh !?) che si trasforma col passare dei secondi. Diventa elettrico e distorto poi cala ancora ma in maniera differente. Ma, se uno si chiama Igor "Prog-Jester" Sidorenko un motivo ci sarà. O no ?! Ragazzi, il pezzo c'è. Ha una sua autonomia ed è equilibrato. Gli strumenti sono stonati ma il pezzo ha coerenza. Le sezione ritmica balla ancora ma il tutto arriva comunque. Il bilanciamento dei vari strumenti sembra fatto dal benzinaio ma...magari altri 200 gruppi così invece delle solite cose trite e ritrite. Per il dispiacere di numerosi recensori neanche 'Stormy Monday' non è un pezzo stoner metal. Non è semplice farvi capire cosa fanno esattamente i Stoned Jesus perché - fortunatamente - suonano un poco a cazzi loro, con un loro stile, vagamente prog, vagamente grunge. In buona sostanza, le basi ci sono. La cosa più importante, l'essere se stessi, non manca. Manca un poco di scuola di esecuzione, di musica insomma. Poi mancherebbe solamente un produttore a coordinare il tutto e sarebbe sicuramente un bel sentire.

The Ukrainians Stoned Jesus [Sid (bass), Vadim (drums), Igor "Prog-Jester" Sidorenko (guitar, vocals)] reach their second album titled Seven Thunders Roar thanks to the Moon, the ukranian label of Kiev. Most of the 'music employees' calls them stoner metal (what the f**** will ever be...). Personally, I remember their first job as not excellent but not to throw away. The first track 'Bright Like the Morning' does not convince me: too childish, not well played and where the rhythm section has a heavy responsibility in terms of groove. The second track 'Electric Mistress' leads us instead into doom territories where we find the analogy with the piece just finished. The melodic idea is not bad, but the implementation leaves a little 'done'. The voice is not convincing, the mix either, but it's the playing in general that's too bad. I am really sorry because the personality emerges here and there ... 'Indian' ... it seems a bit prog, yes prog! I know it's strange, but true. At about 1:00 Indian goes to sixties environments. Here you can find The Idea, 'there are no saints' (loool). 'I'm the Mountain' is an acoustic track (so it would seem to me more a prog band than a stoner metal...stoner metal ... ... mah!?) that turns with every passing second. It becomes electric and distorted and then falls down again, but differently. Well, if a guy is named Igor "Prog-Jester" Sidorenko there is a reason. Or not! Guys, the song is good. It has its own autonomy and balanced. The instruments are out of tune but the piece is consistent. The rhythm section is playing the surf over the timing but it all comes anyway. The mix of the various instruments seems did by the gas station man... but 200 groups more like that are really welcome, so instead of the usual hackneyed. To the chagrin of many reviewers either 'Stormy Monday' is not a stoner metal piece. It is not easy to make you understand what exactly the Stoned Jesus are doing because - fortunately - they sound a little on their own f*** businness, with their own style, vaguely prog, vaguely grunge. In essence, we have the foundations. What is most important - being yourself - they do not miss it. They would need a 'performance' school, music school, in short. He either lacks only a producer to coordinate everything and it would definitely a nice hearing.
